BIOGRAPHY: Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Runaldo Ferré graduated as an architect and urban designer from the University of Fine Arts of São Paulo. As the son of a music conductor, he was brought up in a world focussed on art which led to his multi-dimensional character.

In the early part of his career Runaldo became a member of Estudio Erre – a group of selected designers awarded many times by Museu da Casa Brasileira (The Brazilian House Museum), one of the most prominent design museums in Latin America. After seven years with Estudio Erre, Runaldo opened his RFK Studio, specialising in architecture, interior design and graphic design. In 1993, he created and developed the visual identity for a London-based company, Swimming Nature, that went on to win the Time Out ‘Small Business of the Year Award’.

Moving to London, Runaldo continued his career in graphic design and became more involved in illustration and animation. While in London, he developed a series of collage and abstract canvas paintings, which were later exhibited at his first solo art exhibition in Mayfair. Runaldo has a strong interest in photography, particularly black and white photography. His favourite subjects are people and urban life, and, likewise his paintings and collages, he often demonstrates a hint of ‘shamanism’ as to how he sees the world.

In 2005 the region’s hub of opportunity took Runaldo to Dubai, UAE, where he went back to his academic roots, specialising in architecture, interior design as well as custom interior design for yachts.

From the Middle East to Africa, Runaldo relocated with his family to the Western Cape region of South Africa. The exuberant natural surroundings have inspired him to focus on developing his abstract artwork.

Currently, back to the UK, his favourite place in the world, Runaldo is further developing his painting, photography and design works.

“I’ve tried many forms of artwork, but my absolute best scenario is to lay down a very large canvas and lose myself in the process of bringing it to life. I don’t plan what comes up, but, without a doubt, something – a team of nonsensical shadows and figures, for instance – earns its place in the vastness.” Runaldo Ferre.
